Climate Emergency and Sustainability

The Museum declared climate emergency in July 2019. This meant that carbon reduction and environmental issues were put at the forefront of all decisions made. The first thing I saw change was the eradication of plastic bottles in the cafe and replacing them with canned water. There was also the introduction of biodegradable cutlery, cups and containers. There was then the introduction of water bottle refill stations.

Being apart of an organisation that was making these environmentally conscious changes helped me to identify with the cause more. Seeing actual action take place was what I was looking to portray in my film. Sustainability was going to be discussed by Jamie Craggs in the film. The main aim of this links to the purpose of my film which is seeing change. Showing the ways in which the museum had made making these changes important may have inspired the audience to make changes in their own lives. When visiting the museum gardens I was able to capture some of the examples that I would have put when portraying sustainability at the Horniman.
